Recognizing Individual Success and Excellence (RISE)
RISE is a school-based, multi-faceted program which addresses the needs of children who are displaying signs of anti-social behaviour in the classroom, home and community. The program is approximately four months in duration. The program has four components which promote, empower and encourage positive behaviour:
- One–to–One Support provides the child with an opportunity to discuss challenging issues. The child will set personal goals, practice social skills and develop effective problem solving skills.
- Evidence-Based Life Skills Group gives the children the chance to practice and enhance the skills they have learned during their one–to–one sessions, in a small group setting, utilizing the evidence-based Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) program.
- Recreation allows the children to participate in different recreational opportunities. It encourages them to interact with other children in a pro-social manner, in a large community setting.
- Family Support includes contact meetings and education groups, utilizing the Botvin LifeSkills Training Parent program. A Children’s Activity Group is available for younger siblings.
Inclusionary Criteria:
- Children, 6-9 years old, who live in Peel and are within the designated geographical family of schools
- Children experiencing difficulties in the home, school or community in the areas of aggression and poor social skills
- Children living at home or being integrated back into the family
